Missing Order Email? Check junk folder!

This has been an ongoing source of frustration for us, and our loyal customers, and there’s little we can do about it. Due to the fact that Response Type runs on “shared hosting”, other websites with less repute can co-exist on the same ip address, which can be separately added to anti-spam lists, indirectly flagging this webstore.

There are about 30 popular anti-spam services and lists used by major email providers to help filter out genuine garbage, with varying success. The issue is that the overwhelming majority of them do not list Response Type, or the host ip, as a source of spam, but at least one does.

Unfortunately, with the sheer volume of spam sent around the world daily, email providers don’t look at spam lists democratically, if there’s even reason to suspect, it gets flagged. Now this wouldn’t be such a big deal normally, most of such lists are managed in a way that a site owner can request their proprties/ip being removed, yet every attempt to remove the webstore ip has failed, or just had no effect.

There is no danger of the emails being blocked from all the research we’ve done, being flagged without consensus just seems to result in some intermediate category of potentially “unwanted” rather than “harmful” email, and will end up in whatever Junk folder the provider has setup. It appears the order completion emails, which almost always include a tracking link, get flagged most often, and the initial order emails very rarely do.

This tends to confuse customers who might see the order was placed, and hear nothing until the package arrives, which we can all agree is rather annoying. I will refer anyone who has had a bad experience with smaller vendors taking too long to ship items (or worse still providing false tracking numbers to give themselves more time) to visit the Response Type webstore’s policy and about pages, found in the top menu.

The company policies and general expectations are clearly laid out for anyone willing to read them, but almost all packages are shipped within 6 days from the order date, with only the rare case exceeding that time. It is the best we can do.
